Incredible AFLV Presentation!

The career planning workshop conducted last Friday at the AFLVWest Conference in San Diego was simply incredible.

With seating set for 55 students, nearly 100 jammed in the room to participate in the workshop. It was so exciting that students literally sat on the floor around the podium and presentation screen!

The interactive session provided information and best practices in the areas of:

  • Personal characteristics
  • Acquired skills
  • Resume tips
  • Personal branding
  • Greetings and first impressions
  • Social media presence and messaging
  • Networking benefits
  • Networking success tips
  • Professional relationship building

Many questions were asked, allowing for a very interactive discussion.

Thanks to the Association of Fraternal Leadership and Values for the opportunity to share tips and information relating to careers. The session's topic, "Ways to Leverage Greek Experience to Land a Great Job" was ideal for these student leaders. And, special thanks to participants of the next session, who patiently waited for students to ask questions after our session.

Research Employers before the Interview

Employers are looking for someone with a real interest in their organizations. Conducting research, in advance of the interview, will set you apart from other candidates. When you know something about an organization, you can confidently describe it in more relevant terms. At the same time, the conversation and line of questions you ask will help you decide if the employer is a good fit for you. The research you conduct will set the tone for a more informative exchange, clearly demonstrating your interest in the employer and the open position.
